Department of zoology

Department of Zoology was established in the academic year 2012-13 with the first batch of F.Y.B.Sc. It has three full-time qualified staff, two of them have got their Ph. D.s. The department teaches UG classes and runs certificate courses keeping views of needs of society and students. We have opted for Entomology (a study of insects) as an Applied Component for T.Y.B.Sc. Class. More than four batches of graduate students have been released out from the Department. Many of them have grabbed a good position in different areas of their careers. Department has been successful in producing good results of T.Y.B.Sc. Exams. Department has spacious and well-equipped laboratories for carrying out practical sessions. Laboratories have enough instruments, equipment, and animal specimens of different phyla as suggested by the curriculum.

As a part of the extra-curriculum, the department celebrates different days, events related to the subject and keep students well aware about. Department is maintaining Zoo Garden which includes Butterfly garden, and pond to rear and culture microfauna, invertebrates, frog, fishes, etc. for study purpose. We also have a fish tank (small aquarium) maintained in our laboratory. Department has good internet facility (with WIFI), printer, scanner for faculty and students for smooth functioning.

We have opted student-centric methods in teaching and learning. Faculty members always create a healthy academic environment and encourage students to participate in various events organized in or outside the college. They are involved in training the brains of the students in their placement gain. In our department, we are nurturing students to enable them to be globally competent. We have adopted innovative teaching-learning methods using ICT-based techniques in learning resources, software (Zygote body). As a part of the advanced study, we conduct Google Classroom for all three classes.

We organize guest lectures on academics. The outcome of all academics and social activities conducted was having an overwhelming response and beyond expectation for the beneficiaries i.e. students. The faculty have actively participated and contributed to the designing and development of curricula of university courses in Zoology. The faculty is involved in effective teaching, timely consultancy, and extension activities.

Department has successfully completed 01 Minor Research Project. The staff members of the department have published— Research papers in various journals. The students of the department have also participated continuously in research activities such as ‘Avishkar’.
